All Your Questions Answered
Buckle up and grab your reading glasses, there’s a lot of exciting information ahead! You probably have plenty of questions, and lucky for you, I love answering them. In this (not-so-short) guide, I’ll do my best to cover everything you need to know.
This gift from us to you is a magical vacation to Walt Disney World, using our Disney Vacation Club (DVC) points. Each night at a Disney resort costs a specific number of points. Not every resort is DVC‑eligible, so I’ve tailored my DVC calculator to show only those that can use points. There are many more Disney resorts around the world that aren’t included in my list, mainly because they’re outside the Disney World area or not as convenient. If you’d like information on all available resorts, just let me know!
Inside the DVC calculator, you’ll notice a checkbox labeled “Include Your Family Tour Guides.” Selecting this changes your party from 2 guests in 1 room to 4 guests in 2 rooms, meaning Anna and I would join you as your personal guides throughout the trip. We can either stay at the same resort or at a different one if you prefer a bit more privacy.
You’ll also see a button that lets you choose the number of DVC points to use. I'm allotted 150 points per year but can bank points to use the following year, giving you up to 300 points to use for this trip. That can either double the length of your stay or upgrade you to a more luxurious resort. Of course, you don’t have to use all the points, since some resorts can stretch them to cover nearly a month!
Next, you’ll find a dropdown menu that reflects seasonal changes. Disney adjusts point costs throughout the year based on festivals and crowd levels. Busier seasons cost more, while slower ones are cheaper. Our home resort is the Riviera, which lets us book up to 12 months in advance. For all other resorts, bookings open 6 months in advance.
To see the official DVC calculator with exact point costs and availability, you’ll need to log into a DVC account. Once you have an idea of where and when you’d like to stay, we’ll sort out the details together. My custom calculator only includes Disney World‑area resorts (not the budget ones), but you can explore the full list of DVC‑eligible resorts here: https://disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com/destinations/list.
No matter where you stay or how long, please keep in mind that the DVC points cover only your room and resort amenities. Park tickets, travel, and food are separate costs. That said, I’ll be treating you both to a special dinner, my treat, whether or not we join you as guides!
Park Tickets:
- 1 Park Per Day: You can visit one of the four parks each day (no switching).
- Park Hopper: You can move between any of the four parks whenever you like.
For example, a 7‑day ticket in October costs around $1,600 for two people, while the Park Hopper version runs about $1,800.
Dining: This is my favorite part! Disney’s dining options are endless and delicious. You can explore everything they have to offer here: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/.
It’s a lot to take in, but trust me, there’s something for everyone. In the DVC calculator, you’ll also find a “Parks” button that gives you quick info on each park, with links to their official pages. Don’t forget about Disney Springs, too. It’s free to enter and packed with great shops, restaurants, and entertainment.
Finally, I’m assigning you a bit of fun homework! Take some time to explore the options, think about what kind of experience you’d love most, and jot down any questions that come up. There is no timeframe I haven’t included every detail here (trying to spare you a full novel), but I’m always happy to explain or expand on anything.
Can’t wait to help you plan the perfect Disney adventure!
